Everyone’s seen them; the greasy unkempt anime uber-fan who can tell you the secret religious meaning in an anime series. By unkempt I mean unwashed and oblivious to daily hygiene. Even Anime Central admits that rabid fans are stinky and olfactory offensive by their Got Soap? campaign. These are the folks who will watch ANYTHING anime, no matter how blatantly crappy, and then turn around and lord it over you. They wear anime fan shirts a size too small and buy all anime related products (I’m waiting for someone to buy the Hello Kitty “personal massagerâ€).... Continue Reading...
Dead Leaves was a really, really weird yet awesome movie that made little sense visually but in actuality made total sense story-wise. I know that that’s a confusing statement, so while I’ll try to elaborate on that, I recommend watching Dead Leaves to fully comprehend what I’m getting at.... Continue Reading...
Anime conventions always seemed like things that happened to other people. I’d open a Newtype and gaze longingly at the pictures of fans lined up to get in to cons and preview manga and anime and enjoy the company of other fans. Living in Southern Illinois for 10 years makes you think you never will get to any decent con without a lotta traveling/cash. Now that I’ve moved to da Big City I figured that St. Louis would have a con or two…I guessed wrong.... Continue Reading...
Chrono Crusade. This review of Chrono Crusade is going to be lightweight (I’m not a fan of spoilers). I’d love to write an in-depth article featuring my thoughts on all the characters, story and so on. However, I don’t want to spoil it for those of you who don’t want to know everything. Plus I’m a terrible writer (and a worse speller). So here’s my attempt at a review:... Continue Reading...
Another Why God Why! post…It’s not as disturbing as the Sparda twins nekkid, but it’s definetly creepy enough to get posted here.... Continue Reading...
I love sharing anime with my friends and family. I’d like to think that I have good taste in anime and that I like good anime and only good anime, but that’s my opinion. I thought that when I lent out Escaflowne to a friend that she would join the ranks of Escaflowne lovers, especially since she’s such a fan of fantasy. Wrong! Oh, she e-mailed me and let me know how and why she disliked it:... Continue Reading...
After much waiting and anticipation, I finally saw Howl’s Moving Castle. Forgoing the opportunity to see it on the big screen since I didn’t want to watch it in downtown Chicago, I’ve waited 8 months to see this film. Miyazaki’s latest film that hit stateside last summer is a treat; awash with originality and rich designs.... Continue Reading...
East-East is an Asian food market with two locations in the St. Louis area, both of which are located on Olive Blvd. One is in U-City and the other in Chesterfield. EE is primarily a Korean grocer, but as often happens with ethnic stores, isn’t strictly Korean.... Continue Reading...
