Last week we heard a rumor Leonardo DiCaprio, that heartthrob of the silver screen, may be the man playing the troubled Kaneda in Warner Brother’s live action adaptation of the iconic manga turned anime, Akira. There was some rumbling among the anime community as to whether Leo would do the role credit or if he would foul up the angsty persona of Kaneda.... Continue Reading...

When I found out that the Gothic & Lolita Bible was being licensed for release in the U.S., I was pretty psyched! For those of you who might not know what that is, it’s a collector’s magazine (dubbed a “mook” by the Japanese–somewhere between a magazine and a book) that showcases some amazing fashions unique to Tokyo. As the title implies, it’s an assorted collection of Gothic and Lolita styles as well as Punk and mixtures of said fashions (such as Gothic Lolita). It appeals to both cosplayers and fashionistas worldwide–but until now, only those able to read Japanese could bask in its entire glory.... Continue Reading...

Senbei, okaki, and arare, the elusive Japanese rice crackers. Or I should say, good senbei, okaki and arare are elusive. I’ve had my fair share of senbei and arare mixes, most of which have been underwhelming in terms of excitement and enjoyability. They all seem to taste the same with varying differences in texture and size. Everything tastes like shoyu (soy sauce), nori and sugar. These flavors are great, but given the huge diversity in appearance and packaging, shouldn’t there be just as many flavors to match?... Continue Reading...

I don’t know about you, but I choose not to openly advertise certain aspects of my fandom. There are some things I don’t go on and on about since I feel slightly ashamed of them. These are my anime guilty pleasures.... Continue Reading...
It’s been a few months since a sci-fi anime has gotten my undivided attention. Ergo Proxy was the last sci-fi anime that I devoted actual time to. Everything else out there is either too jiggly, too lame, too tongue-in-cheek, or poorly executed. Not just that, but one of my other fave sci-fi genres the space opera - a sub-genre which includes live action favorites Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica - seems to have dwindled away in favor of darker, more speculative sci-fi....
