We’re flying in to LAX at 11:35 in the noon on Thursday, the 28th. Don’t know what we’ll do until check-in…we’re debating whether or not to go to Little Tokyo via mass transit. All of us want good sushi and Lil Tokyo is supposedly 2nd best only to Japan. We’ll have all that time to kill so my vote is to lug the baggage with us and shop the biggest Japanese mall in the US. How’s about you and yours?

We also arrive on the 28th, around the same time, but we are flying into the Long Beach Airport. LAX is too scary for me!

We are probably going to drop our bags off at the bell desk and walk over to the aquarium. It’s a fun place to spend a couple of hours.

I am a little spoiled on good sushi - there are a ton of authentic Japanese places in my area for sushi, so I probably eat it once a week or so. We have a Japanese grocery store that sells bento lunches, so I eat there a little more than I should, too. I love sushi!

The last time we were in Little Tokyo, we had a really good sushi lunch, but I can’t remember the name of the place we went to. It was in the mall. Check out the arcade there, too - they had some really good games!

I’m going to AX, and it will be my first time as a real anime blogger. I’d love to drop by and say hi, especially if a whole bunch of other anime bloggers will come too…

I’d like to warn you that Little Tokyo is a bit far from Long Beach. Especially in bad traffic.

@DS, Unfortunately for us, we blew our wad on AX and are too broke to go other cons. Maybe you can post for blogger gatherings at Anime Next and Connecticon. I’ll pass along any info on those here too.

@Mike, we were planning on taking mass transit and the LA Mass Trans site said 1.25 hours at the time we keyed in the slots. We’ll be going there straight from LAX. Return trip to LB was 1.20 hours. Hopefully traffic won’t be that bad that early. Worth it? I’m betting (and hoping) yes ^^.

Anybody have any ideas for a meeting place? A restaurant? At the con, away from the con? Suggestions?

@Mike, you live in LA, right? Could you recommend some nearby spots in Long Beach? Also, anyone know if there’s a beach near the hotel that can be used by all?

Haven’t been to the Pacific ever and I haven’t been to the beach in over 20 years. I kinda wanna swim in the ocean!

Hi Rachel, I live in Pasadena, which is a bit far from Long Beach and so unfortunately I’m not so familiar with that part of the area. In fact I’ve only visited Long Beach once. LA is huge…and also, if you’re going to use the light rail/subway, be prepared to wait a little longer than usual for a train. The subway doesn’t arrive as often as in other big cities that have had subways longer, like New York or DC. It’s why most people don’t use it if they have a choice and if you can afford it, I do recommend renting a car. There are still lots of places mass transit can’t go.

Here’s what I do know. There is a big plaza right next to the convention center, filled with restaurants, Cold Stone Creamery, shops, along with the nearby hotels. In fact it’s one big area. There’s also a big aquarium nearby to visit.

As for beaches, for someone who’s been here for a couple of years I sure don’t know that much. :-p I’m mostly familiar with Santa Monica, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and further out Malibu and also some beaches in OC (Huntington). It’s quite hot this time of year now so I’m sure just about every beach is going to be very full.

Sorry to clog your website with my comments but one more place I’d like to recommend in Little Tokyo, since you’re planning to head there. There’s a WONDERFUL ramen shop in Little Tokyo called Daikokuya, and they sell huge bowls of ramen for $7.95 that’s just awesome. They are on 1st Street and in the evenings, they are quite crowded and filled with lots of Japanese young people (which you know probably means the food will at least be good). I’ve been there 3 times and I’m not sick of it yet!

@ALL, so in researching the surrounding area, I found one or two eateries suitable for a gathering. Thoughts on walking to there from the con? Do we want to meet at the con hall and kinda stay there, or do we grab a bite to eat between panels?

@Mike, thanks for all the info! We’ll probably just rent a car for the day and then drop it off at the Long Beach airport then catch a bus to the hotel. Whew, it’s getting complicated!

This is my first trip out to Anime Expo and to California. Actually, its pretty much verbatim from what you said in your post. I’ve been following your blog and a few others ever since I decided to go to Anime Expo back in May. Now that its almost here I am getting pretty pysched. I’ve had an interest in doing anime blogging but haven’t pursued it, hopefully this con will reinvigorate my passion for sharing my perspective on anime.

I don’t have an anime blog, so I just put up my regular blog.

“OFFICIAL” TIME for ANIME EXPO’s BLOGGERS MEETUP:

I’ve checked the schedule and there aren’t any industry panels at that time that would cause a conflict.

I’m leaning towards a pizza place I’ve researched online to meet. It’s called Extreme Pizza and it’s well within walking distance. I think we’ll be needing a breather from the con and we’ll be needing food as well. Julie has a point about it being a good thing to get some fresh air. What do you guys think? Is pizza a good idea? Should we meet there or meet somewhere in the convention hall and walk there together?

OFFICIAL MEETING PLACE & TIME!!

WHERE: Convention Hall Lobby by the Exhibit Halls (NOT the lobby by the Arena!)

WHEN: Saturday June 30th @ 5:15

We’ll be wearing our “The Anime Blog” t-shirts and I’ll have a sign that says “Blogger’s Meetup!”. After we gather at 5:15, we’ll wait till 5:25 and head over to Extreme Pizza. Anyone who comes late can meet us at the pizzeria. So come one and all bloggers and break bread together at Anime Expo 2007!!!

I’m hoping to meet up with everyone at this blogger gathering too! Unfortunately, I’ll be at the SOS Brigade Invasion Tour concert until 5:30 on Sat. But if you guys are still at the pizza place at 6 or later, then I might be able to make it. We’ll see.

I’m sorry I couldn’t make it! The concert went very late (it ended at 7:30), and when I went to Extreme Pizza afterwards, you were all gone. I really missed hanging out with you all. Will you be around anytime else during the con? I’ll be there all four days.
