*spacecoyote over at deviantArt (yes we looove them) has gotten some recent high-profile press lately over her anime-style Simpsons art titled ‘The Simpsonzu’.

I’ve discovered many talented artists by Google-ing (fill in the blank) fan art. I myself like looking for Final Fantasy, Hellsing and Capcom fan art among many others (yay! Advent Children fans rejoice; there’s so much fan art! ). Everybody has a favorite series or game with memorable characters that someone else can draw in their own unique way. It’s interesting to see another take on a scene or a completely new “behind the scenes” vignette.

Some people draw characters because they love them and must show their appreciation by taking pen to paper. Others do them as a tribute to the series or game or as a service to fans or friends. Still others really “love” them and can only see their man/woman naked by drawing said characters themselves. Hence why there’s so much gross yaoi (I repeat that I only dislike fan yaoi that takes two straight characters and makes ‘em gay, otherwise I have no issue with yaoi itself) out there that violates the sanctity of plotlines by making everyone not only naked, but gay too.

Yaoi not withstanding, there are actually some nice pairings skillfully rendered with lovely backgrounds. I like it when the artist comes up with a costume and environment that’s not in the anime. It shows they’re not just copying a scene or pose, and gives us viewers a glimpse of their originality.

An absolutely wonderful site to find all kinds of fan art, and art period, is at deviantart.com. This site, a treasure trove of incredibly talented people, is a searchable database that houses aspiring artists from around the world. You can find ANYTHING on this site.

I encourage everyone to visit this site and look at these artists who draw your and my favorite characters. You can’t comment unless you’re a member and are signed in. If you are a member and can comment, please remember that these people aren’t your artistic monkey-slaves. I’ve read comments by people actually demanding or taunting them to draw this big-boobed chick or pair these two together, and make em’ gay!
Give the artists kudos or shut your pie hole. I know if I could draw that well I would be pissed by the heckling some of them get.

I couldn’t find another “one stop shop” so to say, of anime fan art that’s as good or comprehensive as deviantart. Just typing in “insert your fave anime here” fanart will give you a load of hits to peruse if you’re so inclined.
